Alloy 400 is a copper-nickel alloy, also known as Monel 400. it consists of 67 per cent nickel, 30 per cent copper and small amounts of iron, manganese, silicon and carbon. Here is some information about Alloy 400:
Forging: Alloy 400 can be shaped through a variety of forging processes, including hot forging, cold forging and extrusion.
Heat Treatment: Alloy 400 can be annealed to improve its mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. Common annealing temperatures range from 650°C to 760°C.
Cold working: Due to its composition, Alloy 400 is more difficult to cold work than other copper-nickel alloys. It must be soft annealed prior to cold working.
CORROSION RESISTANCE: Alloy 400 has excellent corrosion resistance and can be used in a variety of applications in seawater environments. It is resistant to acids and alkalis and also performs well in media such as hydrofluoric acid, chlorides, sulphuric acid and chlorine gas.
Mechanical Properties: Alloy 400 has relatively low strength, hardness and ductility, but it has excellent toughness and wear resistance.
Properties: Alloy 400 has a low coefficient of thermal expansion, good thermal conductivity, and good electrical and magnetic conductivity.
Welding material grades: Common Alloy 400 welding materials include ERNiCu-7 and ENiCu-7.
Application areas: Alloy 400 is widely used in marine engineering, chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, aerospace and other fields. For example, it can be used to manufacture desalination equipment, to manufacture offshore engineering parts, to manufacture chemical reactors, tanks and pipelines.
